Origins Southwest is deeply committed to the values of personal choice, personal freedom, and having fun. At our Tucson day program, we strive for the independence of all individuals by embracing the process of self-determination as our service delivery model.
We offer a diverse, experiential learning program which emphases creative, artistic, and academic self-expression. Class topics and activities are driven by the combined interests and passions of our students and faculty.
In 1986, Origins Society & Global College/Project Origins was founded in Tucson, Arizona by James Gittings. Origins Society was a non-profit, established as an alternative model of continuing education to serve persons with developmental disabilities and other life challenges. Our respite and day programs are driven by the firm belief that community service, community engagement, and experiential learning are key cornerstones towards individual growth and strengthening our larger, global community.
The CEO/owner (James Gittings) merged Origins Society with Southwestern University & Global College, Inc. in 2014 and the company is dba Origins Southwest. Although no longer a non-profit organization, no changes were made to our services. Origins Southwest maintains an operating budget which meets the qualifications for 501(3c) non-profit status but no longer operates as a registered, non-profit organization.
Today, Origins Southwest remains a small, family-owned business. Our services are licensed and monitored by the Arizona Department of Developmental Disabilities. We have an outstanding team of direct support professionals, many who have been with Origins for over 10 years.
